Seeds of Hope is a ministry serving teenage street children in Kenya. Our mission is to build and support the development of a self-sustaining residential vocational school that will provide occupational skills training allowing these young adults to become employed, contributing members of their community.
Vocational education is training that equips students with practical experience and technical skills in a specific type of field. Also known as Career and Technical Education (CTE), vocational education prepares learners for jobs in manual and practical activities. A learner develops expertise in specific trade areas, crafts, and careers. Through the training that these boys receive, they are able to create their own forms of self-employment, be flexible and be responsible and law-abiding citizens.
Our story
David Kariuki leads these life-changing efforts at Seeds Of Hope, located in Naivasha Kenya. David has previously acted as the director of Tumaini Children’s Home. David lived the experiences of these children as a youth but has gone on to earn his Masters in Counseling Psychology.
These kids have little hope to “catch up” in an academic environment as many have not attended school and would be relegated to a grade level untenable to the other students and faculty. So they get lost in the system, get into drugs and crime, live on the streets, and die prematurely. But we CAN do something about it – based upon the successful model established by Charles Mully in Kenya nearly 30 years ago. The model is to teach vocations, not elementary education, to this group of forgotten teens, including farming, masonry, cabinetry, carpentry, sewing, welding, and custodial skills.
David grew up in this environment, survived and thrived, and is now heading this mission. His story of redemption, hope, and faith is an encouragement to many.

WAVE Children’s Foundation encourages and supports this organization in Naivasha and others to be self-sustainable and ensure that kids living in such centers have access to education, clean water, and healthy nutritious diets.
